What is Reiki?
Reiki is a non-invasive, gentle, yet powerful method of healing. Reiki energy, (often described as `universal life energy') is accessed by the practitioner during a treatment. It enhances the body’s natural healing ability and promotes wellbeing.

Reiki treatment stands on its own as a healing practice and is also safely used to support orthodox and complementary medicine. Reiki doesn’t interfere with or diminish the intended effects of other health or medical practices. It is increasingly accepted in health and community care facilities including hospitals, hospices and cancer support units. For example, at the SolarisCare Cancer Support Centre at Sir Charles Gairdner hospital in Perth, Reiki is the most accessed complementary health treatment for cancer and leukaemia patients. Many patients report significant improvements in their level of pain, fatigue, nausea and breathing.

To awaken your heart, mind and body, experience the healing art of Reiki.

• Are you ill, in pain, or in distress and seeking help to cope with your situation?
• Are you feeling low or anxious?
• Does everything feel `just too much' at times?
• Need a way to recharge and gain peace of mind?

Reiki can help!

An abundance of anecdotal evidence about the benefits of Reiki treatment has been a catalyst for credible research into the effects of Reiki. The National Institutes of Health USA have trials under way to investigate the effect of Reiki on stress, fibromyalgia, AIDS, prostate cancer, painful neuropathy and cardio-vascular risk factors. Pamela Miles, author of Reiki: A Comprehensive Guide and leading US exponent on the integration of Reiki into mainstream healthcare facilities, writes "......studies that have been done so far have showed promising results for using Reiki to reduce stress, anxiety and pain.

Gluten Free Foods
What is gluten? Gluten is the elastic type protein found in wheat, rye, barley, oats and triticale. In gluten allergies, the protein found in gluten type products, reacts with the ‘villi’ or lining of the intestines, causing the lining to shrink and reduces the absorption of other foods and nutrients. Some of the symptoms can include diarrhoea, bloating, weight loss, abdominal pain, weight loss, fatigue, vomiting and breathlessness.

One such disease which is triggered by gluten is Coeliac disease. Coeliac disease is an auto-immune disease, where the body produces antibodies that attack its own tissues (www.coeliacsociety.com.au). According to the Coeliac society of Australia, Coeliac disease affects approximately 1 in 100 people in Australia alone with 75% of people unaware that they have coeliac disease. It is one of the most under-diagnosed, yet most common chronic diseases and can lead to more serious diseases if left untreated. The positive side to all this, is that when a gluten free diet is strictly followed, the body is able to heal and recover, and symptoms should not return. If you have these symptoms, please consult your practitioner for full testing and correct diagnosis.

To remain healthy and manage your coeliacs disease or gluten intolerance/allergies, you need to read all packaging before you buy and if in doubt, check with the company, or don’t eat it. There are so many foods now that contain wheat and gluten, not just in baked goods such as cakes, pies and pastries, but also added to most take away, convenience and packaged foods, these include muesli bars, sauces, gravies, ice cream, soy sauce, biscuits and even some chocolate.

The good news is that there are now a variety of gluten free products available on the market, designed to keep you healthier and make preparing meals, a whole lot easier.
